This region of Southern Illinois is a unique area in the state geographically, culturally, and economically. This southern area is hilly and forested, and is partially isolated by the Mississippi and Ohio rivers. Finding Healthcare in Southern Illinois
There are no large metropolitan areas in this part of the state. The extreme northwest part of Little Egypt has access to the fine medical facilities in the St. Louis, Missouri area, but most of this southern population is dependent on regional clinics in the few mid-sized towns, including Carbondale, Marion, Herrin, and West Frankfort.
